About the Founder

Laura Bewick Howitt, CFA, CIPM, MBA is the founder of FINANCIAL KID Academy and SGD Compliance. With over 20 years of experience in the investment industry, she has worked across securities regulation, compliance, and advisory oversight, including roles supporting investment firms and regulatory bodies.

​

In addition to her professional work, Laura has been actively involved in investor advocacy and investor protection initiatives, including with the Canadian Advocacy Council, CFA Societies Canada, and the Canadian Investment Performance Committee. She has also supported small business development through a current board and volunteer role with Community Futures Lambton.

Through FINANCIAL KID Academy, Laura focuses on making financial literacy accessible and age-appropriate for children and families by translating complex financial concepts into clear, practical learning tools.

My Story

I’m Laura, founder of FINANCIAL KID Academy and mom of two. After years in the investment industry, I realized something important: We teach adults about money far too late.

So, I set out to break money concepts down into something kids can actually understand. Our work is inspired by my own two amazing children and the everyday moments where the biggest money lessons hide: in those “needs vs. wants” debates and understanding that money isn’t endless.

Alongside launching SGD Compliance, where we support complex operations and compliance for investment firms, I decided to build FINANCIAL KID Academy to make financial literacy simple, accessible, and kid and caregiver friendly.

We’re creating tools, stories, and conversations that help raise confident, money-aware kids.

  • Modern, relatable children’s stories with real-life money concepts woven in

  • A “Jobs in Finance” series to introduce kids to financial careers in kid-friendly language


Financial literacy doesn’t have to be complicated.
